Dr. Robert Cameron has made a name for himself as being one of the lead surgeons in the management of pleural mesothelioma in both veterans and non-veterans in the United States. He works as the scientific advisor to the West Coast-based Pacific Mesothelioma Center, which is renowned for treating numerous mesothelioma patients coming from all parts of the US. He utilizes his skills as a board certified physician in both general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery to treat all types of thoracic diseases, including patients suffering from pleural mesothelioma.

Dr. Robert Cameron has expertise in the management of pleural mesothelioma patients, having treated patients with the disease in excess of 20 years. He was one of the pioneers who developed a surgical procedure known as the “pleurectomy with decortication procedure”. He feels this is a better choice for those with pleural mesothelioma because the lungs are spared. The surgery focuses on ridding the thoracic cavity of all visible evidence of mesothelioma cells. Dr. Cameron has performed this procedure on hundreds of mesothelioma patients over the years of his practice, with good results obtained.

Besides having a clinical practice in cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Robert Cameron has been a pioneer in the research of mesothelioma treatment, particularly pleural mesothelioma. He does his research at the National Cancer Institute, as well as the UCSF School of Medicine, the Stanford University School of Medicine and the UCLA School of Medicine. There he works to advance the treatment of mesothelioma in search of a cure for the disease.

Dr. Robert Cameron is currently the director of the mesothelioma program, located at the David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles. He is also the chief thoracic surgeon at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center, which is one of the few places in the United States where US veterans can go for mesothelioma treatment after receiving the diagnosis of pleural mesothelioma.

Due to his expertise in treating mesothelioma, Dr. Cameron travels throughout the United States lecturing and teaching other surgeons about the management of mesothelioma in the thoracic cavity. He has participated in dozens of scientific research papers on various topics related to the research of cancer and cancer surgery in the thorax.

He has also written dozens of chapters in academic books related to cancer research and the treatment of mesothelioma of the lungs. As the editor of Practical Oncology, a book for academics on the treatment of cancer, Dr. Cameron is able to share his knowledge with others interested in the treatment of mesothelioma of the thorax.

Dr. Paul Cameron has numerous associations in the field of medicine and surgery. Some of his associations include the following:

Through his numerous medical affiliations, Dr. Cameron is able to interface with other surgeons and researchers to put together the best practices in the field of mesothelioma and related lung cancers.

Dr. Cameron is affiliated with the Pacific Mesothelioma Center on the West Coast of the United States. There, he has been heavily involved in developing research protocols that have been helpful in treating many different types of mesothelioma patients, who receive the best practices in the treatment of mesothelioma based on the latest available research. Through his work at the Pacific Mesothelioma Center, Dr. Cameron is tirelessly striving to find research protocols that could one day provide a cure for thoracic mesothelioma.

As part of his training, Dr. Robert Cameron graduated from the University of Michigan and UCLA. He achieved an excellent education and was able to excel to the point where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He continued his training by attending the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He then completed five years of residency training in the field of general surgery at UCLA. Following this, he completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery on the East Coast at the Cornell New York Hospital and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

Dr. Robert Cameron was one of the former directors and a co-founder of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, where he played a large role in numerous research studies that were focused on providing gold standard treatments for patients with mesothelioma who are now able to receive the best and latest care protocols for their condition.
